A Typical
Day on Trek in India The day begins just after 7am with an early morning cup
of tea taken to your tent. A bowl of hot water is provided for
washing. After a hot and substantial breakfast, camp is struck and
we begin our days walk. Lunch is normally served at noon. In the
afternoon we aim to pitch camp at 4pm. Afternoon tea is provided
with biscuits and in the evening a hot 3 course meal is served.
Meals on trek are made to be as varied as possible and we take
advantage of fresh food when available. Some meals will be
supplemented with dehydrated foods that are quick to prepare. A
typical 3 course meal will consist of soup followed by meat / two
veg and staples such as rice or pasta, and fruit or prepared
dessert.
Accommodation 2 Nights Hotel Siddarth (Delhi),
2 nights Nalagarth (Himachal Pradesh), 3 nights Sunshine Lodge (Manali)
and 9 days camping with full porterage.
The
unspoilt Miyar Nullah (Nullah Valley) is situated in Lahaul and beyond the
major effects of the monsoon rains of lowland India. It is similar to
Ladakh and Zanskar, both in its high and dry mountain scenery and Buddhist
culture. During July and early August it is also awash with a
multitude of Himalayan flowers, including the rare blue poppy. This is an
excellent trek for those interested in superb scenery, unique culture and
flora, but do not want the tough trekking normally involved in visiting
Zanskar. There are no passes as the trek is designed as an exploration of
the valley itself. The mountain scenery is second to none, as the valley
is flanked on its north eastern side by the Great Himalayan Range, which
seperates it from the valley Zanskar, As a contrast it also offers the
chance to see part of the beautiful alpine scenery of the Kulu Valley and
to cross the Rhotang Pass, which is only open for 4 months of the year.
